Tuesday, 20:40, a kitchen table. The maths book is open on page 84, fractions with unlike denominators. The class is on that page. Thursday needs a worksheet on that page, at two levels, because six kids are still on page 80 in their heads and four are already bored. Since 7 September 2026 a teacher can upload the book or a PDF to GradeAid, pick page 84, and get a lesson plan from a textbook page, plus a worksheet, a quiz or a presentation that follows the page the class is actually on. This post says what changed, how it works step by step, and what it does not do yet.
What changed on 7 September 2026
Before 7 September, GradeAid worked from a topic and a level. You typed "fractions, grade 5" and got material on fractions for grade 5. Good material, but generic. It did not know that your book introduces the number line before the pizza, or that the examples on page 84 use sevenths and ninths.
Now you can upload the book you use, or any PDF, and point at the pages the class is on. When you then generate a lesson plan, a worksheet, a quiz or a presentation, GradeAid reads those pages first and builds the material on them. The wording, the method and the examples follow your book.
The rest is as before. The material lands in the editor, you change what you want, and you export it as Word or PDF and print it. That part existed before 7 September and has not changed.
Why the page matters more than the topic
When I taught maths, my plan for Thursday started with the book, not with the curriculum. I think most maths teachers work like that. In 2019 researchers from DPU and VIA followed ten schools and found that maths teachers plan mainly from the teaching materials they have, more than from the curriculum goals (Folkeskolen, 27 September 2019). That is seven years ago and a small study. I have not seen anything since that says it changed.
So when an AI worksheet does not fit the class, we usually blame the tool, or the teacher's prompt. Most of the time the real problem is simpler. The tool never saw the page. It wrote about fractions in general, and the class was on one particular way of doing fractions.
The topic is not the lesson. The page is.
How a lesson plan from a textbook page works, step by step
This is the Tuesday evening, timed for the teacher's own hands, not for the computer.
1. Upload the book or the PDF once. Log in to GradeAid in a browser and upload the file. GradeAid only turns the pages into images at this point; it does not read them yet. About 1 minute of your time, then the file stays in your account for later chapters.
2. Pick the pages. Type a page range, for example 84 to 85. The limit is 40 pages per material. If you type in the wrong range, you get material on the wrong page, so check the page numbers on the actual pages, not the ones in the table of contents. About 30 seconds.
3. Say what you want. Choose the material (lesson plan, worksheet, quiz or presentation), the class and the level. Write the objective in one line if you have one, for example "add fractions with unlike denominators, page 84, ten tasks". About 1 minute.
4. Wait for the first result. The first material from a new page range takes longer than usual, because GradeAid reads the pages at that moment. The next materials from the same pages are faster. Make a cup of tea.
5. Read it and fix it. Check every task against page 84. Set aside 10 minutes for a worksheet. This step is not optional: 47.6 percent of worksheets on GradeAid get edited after generation (our own data, 14 September 2026). We say so because a worksheet with one wrong answer in it costs you the class's trust on Thursday morning.
6. Make the second level. Differentiate the worksheet so the six kids who are still on page 80 get the same page with more scaffolding, and the four who are bored get harder numbers. Another 5 minutes to read the second version.
7. Export as Word or PDF and print. About 1 minute.
Total for Tuesday: 15 to 20 minutes, most of it reading. That is the honest number.
Upload the book, choose the page, check the result: the material now follows your page, and the teacher still decides what reaches the kids.
What it does not do yet
It reads the pages you choose, not the whole book. If page 84 refers back to a rule on page 61 and you did not include page 61, GradeAid does not know that rule from your book. Add the page to the range, or write the rule in the objective line.
It does not know what happened in your classroom on Tuesday. It does not know that half the class got the number line and the other half did not. You put that in the level and in the differentiation, or you fix it in the editor.
It does not replace the check. Not "should check." Must check. The 47.6 percent above is on plain worksheets; a worksheet built on a page range is newer and we have less data on it. Read every task before it goes to the printer.
The feature shipped on 7 September 2026, so it is about two weeks old when this post goes out. On 14 September 2026 GradeAid had 309 registered teachers, 193 of them active in the last 30 days, and the heaviest user had made 130 materials since 11 August 2026 (our own data). It is a small group, but everybody has to start somewhere, and their edits are what we learn from.
What a teacher can do this week
1. Pick one chapter, not the whole book. Upload the PDF of the chapter the class is on right now. About 5 minutes once, including finding the file.
2. Make one worksheet from a two-page range and mark it up with a pen. Every task that you changed tells us something. About 15 minutes.
3. Do the same with the topic only, no pages, and compare the two side by side. If the page-based one is not clearly closer to your book, write to us with both versions. About 10 minutes.
4. If it worked, put the differentiated version in front of the two groups on Thursday and look at where they get stuck. Note the task number. That is the input for next Tuesday.

Can I get the worksheet at two levels from the same page?
Yes. Generate the worksheet from the page range first, then differentiate it, so one group gets more scaffolding and the other gets harder numbers on the same page.
