GradeAid began as an AI teaching platform in Danish, built in Copenhagen by a former public-school teacher. Denmark is no longer the majority. That changes what the platform has to be. This post says what it does in ten languages, where the curriculum goals come from, where the AI runs, and what is still less tested.
An AI teaching platform in Danish that now runs in ten languages
Danish is the default. The other nine are English, Spanish, German, French, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian and Swedish. A teacher picks a language once in the language switcher. The choice is saved to the account, so the next login opens in that language.
Every button, menu and message exists in all ten languages. That is a rule in our code: a text that is missing in one language stops the build. So there are no half-translated pages where the top is Norwegian and the bottom is Danish.
The numbers behind the languages are uneven, and we would rather say so. English 118, Danish 116, Romanian 62, Spanish 6 (14 September 2026). The other six languages have almost nobody yet. It is a small start in those languages, but everybody has to start somewhere.
A Norwegian teacher picks Norwegian goals, not translated Danish ones
Translating the buttons is the easy part. The hard part is the curriculum. A grade 6 teacher in Norway does not plan from a Danish goal run through a translator. She plans from the Norwegian one. Not translated. Her own.
So the curriculum picker in GradeAid holds about 601,000 curriculum goals from 53 countries (our seed data, September 2026). The teacher picks her country, her grade and her subject, and sees the goals in the words her own ministry wrote. The goal she picks is attached to the lesson plan, the worksheet, the quiz and the presentation, so the material is written towards that goal and not towards a general idea of "grade 6 maths".
I think a platform that translates the interface and keeps the Danish curriculum underneath is not a platform for Norway. It is a Danish platform with a Norwegian menu. We did not want to build that.
Here is what it looks like on a Tuesday evening. A grade 6 teacher in Romania and a grade 6 teacher in Denmark both need a lesson on percentages for Thursday. The Romanian teacher opens GradeAid in Romanian, picks the Romanian grade 6 maths goal on percentages, types "percentages, grade 6, introduce with prices in a shop" and gets a lesson plan, a worksheet and a quiz in Romanian. The Danish teacher does the same in Danish with the Danish goal. Same evening, same topic, two curricula, two languages. Neither of them sees the other's goals.
When I taught grade 6, the weekly plan was built around the class's goals. The goal came first, the material second. That order is the same on GradeAid in every language.
The AI runs inside the EU
Teachers and school leaders ask where the text goes when the platform generates a lesson. The usual answer is a link to a policy page. Here is the plain version.
GradeAid generates material with Google's Gemini models through Vertex AI, using the EU multi-region endpoint, so the AI processing (the inference) stays inside the EU. Our server is set so that the global endpoint is refused. That is the one sentence, and we do not want to dress it up as more than it is. It covers where the AI processing happens, nothing more, and a school leader or municipality with further questions can write to us.

What is less tested: material in the small languages
The interface is translated in ten languages. The generated material is a different question.
Danish and English are where nearly all the use is. 193 of the 309 registered teachers were active in the last 30 days, and the heaviest user has made 130 materials since 11 August 2026 (our database, 14 September 2026). Most of that is Danish and English. Romanian is the third language and growing. Spanish has 6 teachers. German, French, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese and Swedish have almost nobody yet, which means almost nobody has checked the generated material in those languages.
So we say it plainly. Material in the small languages is less tested than in Danish and English. The grammar will mostly be right. The maths will mostly be right. But the wording a teacher in Sweden expects for a grade 6 task, the way a French worksheet lays out a problem, the terms a Korean textbook uses, none of that has been checked by enough teachers yet.
The known weak spot across all languages is the worksheet. 47.6 percent of worksheets get edited by the teacher after generation (our logs, 14 September 2026). We say that number out loud because it is the honest baseline. In a small language, expect to edit at least that often.
We talk about AI in schools as if the model were the whole product. It is not. The teacher reading the material before it reaches the kids is the product. That is the teacher in the loop, and it matters more in a language we have not tested enough.

What a teacher can do
1. Open GradeAid in a browser and pick your language in the language switcher. About 1 minute, once.
2. Pick your country, your grade and your subject in the curriculum picker, and choose the goal for the week. About 2 minutes per lesson.
3. Type the topic and the level, for example "percentages, grade 6, introduce with shop prices", and generate. The lesson plan, worksheet, quiz, presentation and screen-free activities arrive in seconds.
4. Read everything before it reaches the kids. In a small language, check the terms your textbook uses. Expect to edit the worksheet; 47.6 percent of teachers do (our logs, 14 September 2026). About 10 minutes per lesson.
5. If a word is wrong in your language, write to us at founders@gradeaid.ai with the language and the sentence. We fix it in the next build. About 2 minutes, and it helps the next teacher in your language.
